There are over 40 but less than 50 geometric shapes available in Patterns, as of version 0.01a.[1]
More shapes can be discovered by breaking the starene shape versions of them or by using the Shaping Stone Workbench. The Workbench uses three different panels (i.e. square, equilateral triange, and isoceles triangle) in the creation of shapes. You can get hints for new shapes by breaking non-Starene versions of the shapes. For example when starting a new world, before you have any shapes, you can drop one of the trees right behind the starting pyramid and get 10 different shape hints added to the Workbench.
The cost of resources for each shape can be calculated by counting the number of panels that create the shape. For example, for an eight-sided shape that has two sides consisting of six equilateral triangles each, the shape cost will include the individual triangles, not the number of sides.

The names that are used here can be found by re-building the shape after it has been discovered. Names with ? have yet to be confirmed in-game.
